Who participates in Weekend Missions?
ANYONE with a heart to serve others. Typically, we have a balanced mix of young people, busy professionals, families, and retirees who seek a short term mission experience. We are simply looking for people willing to lend their unique gifts for one weekend. If you have never been on a mission trip to a foreign country, this is the perfect trip for you!
Trips last about two and a half days (Friday Noon to Sunday), but the experience could very well change your life!
Weekend Missions, Inc. (an Arizona Non-Profit Corporation) is currently involved in dozens of projects in Puerto Penasco, also know as Rocky Point, a favorite vacation spot for people in Arizona and surrounding States.
Many Weekend Mission volunteers are not trained in a specific trade; although we welcome specialists in plumbing, electrical, or carpentry. Those without specific skills will be trained on the job with a project manager, or someone specializing in a necessary trade.
Sometimes a Weekend Missions project is as simple as painting a wall or a fence!
The volunteer below is digging a trench for a new water line at the home of the director of the Rocky Point Women’s Shelter. Imagine living in a home with little running water! Later, Weekend Missions hopes to complete a bathroom at this home.
Across town, another volunteer helps to complete a new room at the home of a needy resident.
Many of the citizens live in poverty, and most exist in hovels they call home, often put together with leftover building materials. Indoor plumbing is a luxury for most homes, and electricity is often spotty or non-existent. Air conditioning is rare, and many homes lack a refrigerator. Very few have washers and dryers.

Housing accommodations for Weekend Mission volunteers range from shared space in a condo on the beach to homes, or RVs that are made available for specific Weekend Missions projects. While Weekend Missions cannot guarantee a specific accommodation for any given volunteer, consideration is given for those with special needs.
Those who drive a vehicle into Mexico are required to purchase Mexican Auto Insurance (it is the law in Mexico just like here in the United States). Even if American insurance covers travel into Mexico, it is wise to purchase a Mexican Insurance policy.
