LODGING IS AT MISSION VILLA GRANADA

Weekend Mission's 34-room lodge was purchased in January of 2010 after a long, tumultuous history. After approximately ten years of the building's abandonment, Mark and his team decided that Villa Granada would become the organization's new home. Located in the heart of Puerto Penasco, Mexico, this lodge found its roots in the early 1960s and quickly became a local staple until its decline in the late '90s.
Boasting two large common areas, a dining room, a courtyard, a swimming pool and a hot tub, Villa Granada offers an exciting lodging opportunity for Weekend Mission participants. Each room contains a private bathroom and shower, air conditioning, and free WiFi! When on a mission trip, please expect to share your space with up to two adults of the same gender.

HISTORY OF VILLA GRANADA

The Villa Granada hotel, bar, and restaurant began construction in 1963. The owner continued to add onto the original 5 rooms until it became a 35-room facility. In the 1960s there were no architects in Puerto Penasco so the owner brought in an architect from Hermosillo to build the second story, which totaled about 1,700 square feet. When the restaurant was opened, Presidents and Governors stayed at the Hotel. The Villa Granada was the center of Penasco, and many people made it their meeting place. The owner offered entertainment, orchestras, dancers, and much more. Many famous artists, actors, and prominent people stayed at Villa Granada such as Rock Hudson, Tom Jones singer of “She is a Lady”, Steward Granger, and Mexican Lalo El Piporro. Many Americans married at the hotel because of the romantic courtyard setting and atmosphere.
The good years of Villa Granada were between 1968 and 1995, when many musical bands, singers, comedians, came to Rocky Point. It was the place to be before the resorts began construction on Sandy Beach in the mid-1990s. The Hotel was closed in 2001 and was purchased by Weekend Missions in January of 2010.
